Have You Been Unknowingly Undermining Your Diet?

By Elizabeth Kennedy

We all know that the most effective foods for our diet plans are lean meats, whole grains and healthy fats. These are the foods that give us all protein and energy. They help our bodies remain balanced without infusing a variety of calories that we will need to work extra hard to burn off at the gym. Are you aware, however, that a number of the foods you've been thinking are very good for your diet could actually be making you retain weight? They could be even adding calories to your body! Here are several foods that you might be having which are hurting your efforts to lose weight.

Sports Drinks aren't aiding you whatsoever. You've almost certainly been told that if you want to help your body replenish itself after a work out, you should drink a sports drink. Many medical professionals agree, though, that if your training is fewer than ninety minutes, water is a fine way to do this. Sports drinks are full of calories and sugar and a bunch of other stuff like artificial flavors and colors that will defeat any of your attempts at eating a natural and also healthy diet. Try sipping some chocolate milk as an alternative. The suscrose in the chocolate will help your muscles start to recover and the calcium in milk keeps your bones strong.

Protein Shakes aren't your friend. So many people assume that having a protein shake is a good way to stop cravings when it isn't meal time. The truth of the matter is that if you are already eating a balanced diet all the protein shake does is clog your system with protein. Contrary to popular belief, protein doesn't get stored as muscle, it gets stored as fat. If you've already consumed your daily allotment of protein that day, your whole body will just store the extra in your fat cells for later and that won't help you drop pounds or inches.

Pre-packaged deli meat seriously isn't very healthful at all. It's generally believed that a sandwich constructed of whole grain bread along with lean pre-packaged deli meat is a pretty good lunch time item. The real truth is that pre-packaged deli meat has a large amount of preservatives and will provide you with about a third of your recommended sodium consumption for the day. This might be specifically tricky if you are prone to heart disease. Instead of purchasing the pre-packaged stuff, you should instead use home cooked poultry or freshly sliced meat from your grocery store's deli counter. Sure they are extra expensive options but they are rather a lot healthier for you.

There are all sorts of things that we think will help us lose weight: eating a whole wheat bagel in the morning, for example is actually a lot worse for you than a bowl of oatmeal with some cinnamon sprinkled into it for flavor. Ask your physician exactly what the best ways for you to eat healthfully are and then follow those directions. If you are careful about what you eat and are also good to your system, losing weight probably won't be all that big an issue.
